Village Hall

Village Hall New KitchenThe Village Hall has a very large main hall suitable for 200 people, with a stage and a smaller committee room suitable for no more than 40 people. There is a large well-lit new parking area, an excellent play area outside and a fantastic new kitchen pictured here. To hire the village hall, speak to Richard Allen on 01359 241071 and he will be most helpful.  For more details of hire costs see Hire Charges.

The Village Hall Management Committee manages the hall day to day and plans the long-term development of the hall. On the committee we have people who are managing refurbishment plans, sourcing grants and negotiating with builders. For current details of what has been done and what is next see RefurbishmentAll village organisations can send a representative to vote on the Management Committee.

Village Hall Refurbishment Project

Norton Village Hall dates back to the 1970s and is thankfully structurally sound. Unfortunately the size of the hall makes it difficult to heat. The oil heating system that was installed when it was built was not powerful enough, so it was removed and overhead electric heaters were installed instead. These are expensive and inefficient. However, new insulation in the hall and a hire charge that includes heating, now makes the hall usable through the winter. The kitchen has been renovated but the toilets are in need of updating.

So far the Village Hall Commitee have:

  • Installed cavity wall insulation
  • Double glazed the windows
  • Repainted the Committee Room
  • Wooden floor has been stripped, sanded and repolished
  • New, lower ceiling installed in the hall
  • Insulation in the roof throughout the facility
  • New kitchen with two range cookers, extractor, warming oven, super fast dishwasher
  • Upgraded electrical system
  • New flooring in kitchen and Committee Room
  • Instigated a new cleaning regime
  • Thanks to the Parish Council, the Car Park has been upgraded

Urgently required are:

  • An ecological heating system
  • New toilets with accessiblity for all

In addition, the committee are seeking funding to also extend the hall so an additional Committee Room can be built.

To do all of these things the Village Hall Committee needs to raise an additional:

£100,000

Fundraising

The Village Hall Committee has raised almost £50,000 so far and that has been spent constructively on upgrading the electrical system, kitchen and refurbishment of the Committee Room. Of course the committee is still applying for available grants, however grants often match any money raised by the organisation itself. So, as a village we need to come together and think of any fundraising possibilities to give the community the centre it needs.

Any volunteer work offered by the community also attracts funding. As funders will match the cost of the time taken by a volunteer to do a skilled job, such as tiling. So if you have a skill you would like to offer, don’t wait to be asked.
