Safer Neighbourhood Team
If there is a crime in Norton the new number for the local police is 101, which is the number used for local police forces accross England and Wales. To speak to someone from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, it will be easiest to dial 101 as they are likely to be out on patrol. You will then be told you are being put through to Suffolk Constabulary's Police HQ, where you can speak to the operator and either ask to be put through to a particular officer, or to Mid Suffolk South Safer Neighbourhood team office. Why is Broadband so slow in Norton?
Mike, a Norton resident explains: It's a good idea to register an interest in faster broadband at www.suffolk.gov.uk/broadband but the problem we have is not purely the speed of the Exchange, but the distance the majority of residents of Norton are from the two exchanges most of the village is connected to.
Norton Residents should contact Tony Estcourt, is Head of Broadband Services at BT Wholesale at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and ask for FTTC in Norton. Here's why:
Recycling
The Wheelie Bin collections are made on a Tuesday, alternating between the black bins for land fill waste and the Green lidded bin for recycleable waste. You can also, if required, arrange for a brown composting bin by contacting Mid-Suffolk District Council, but there is a small fee to pay for this service.
But recycling in Norton does not have to stop there -
On the car park in front of the Village Hall you will find recycle bins for all colours of glass, clothing and paper and when you dispose of these items you not only help the planet, you also help the parish as all income is used to supplement the local rates. Also as land for landfill use is being used up quickly, so the cost of dumping rubbish has risen, which increases council tax. So any extra recycling you can do, directly affects where your tax is spent.
Just for good measure you can join the hundreds of members of Stowmarket Freecycle at http://groups.freecycle.org/stowmarket_freecycle/posts/11042353 this is a Yahoo group who do not wish to consign perfectly good items to go to the landfill just because they have no further use for them. Another similar site is www.preloved.co.uk.
By giving these items away they can be given a whole new lease of life by the new owner and not only do you aid the planet, you also get a nice feeling inside from helping someone else
