A Short Walk in Norton – Walk 1
Starting in the Church car park with the Church on your right hand side, looking West, you walk out of the right hand far corner, up the grassy incline past the Churchyard on your right. Go through the open gate and straight on, with the Old Rectory on your right, until the hedge on the right ends. There is a seat for taking in a good view of Norton. You then fork right to the corner of the field where there is an opening in the hedge. Fork left along the hedge line, picking blackberries, if in season. Cross the ditch at the field entrance and continue along to the corner. Turn left along the hedge line heading down hill, past the Oak tree into the next field. Continue straight on until you come to the track and field entrance. To your right is Halls Farm, turn left down the track between the horses field and the field until you reach the junction with the footpath leading to the A1088 (Ixworth Road). At the corner on your left, turn left along the hedge line until you reach the foot-bridge across the stream. Once across the foot-bridge turn right along the field edge. When you reach the corner, looking straight ahead, look for the left corner of the “back of the school” hedge and strike out across the field heading for the aforementioned corner; it is usually well trodden and marked by the farmer with white sticks. When you reach the back of the school grounds, “dog leg” left round the end of the school and follow the hedge line up past the school grounds to the corner of the field. Turn right across the foot bridge, and walk into School Close. Walk to the top of School Close where it joins The Street. If you wish turn right to visit The Dog for “refreshments” or the Garage for ice creams, returning to the junction afterwards. Turn left along The Street to the junction with Church Lane. Turn left down Church Lane, pausing to take the views across Norton and your walk. I hope you enjoyed your walk. Please keep to the Public Rights of Way, leave no litter and clear up after your dog. Any comments on the walk please contact the Norton Parish Council Footpath Representative, John Adams. 01359 230085. |
